Cresent closes big health and safety deal in Iraq

Cresent has signed a multi-million pound deal to supply health and safety training products for workers in Iraq’s Rumaila oilfield.

The multi-million pound contract, set to be the largest in the company’s 30-year history was awarded by BP Iraq, which is operating the giant oilfield in a joint venture with PetroChina and the national Iraqi Southern Oil Company.

The deal will involve all parts of Cresent’s business from consultancy, project management, control of work software system WorkSafe®, e-learning, and classroom based learning. The company’s health and safety training products, which have been translated into Arabic and Mandarin specifically for the contract, are being delivered to thousands of personnel on site.

Approximately 750 Iraqis will visit Edinburgh over a nine-month period to receive training in WorkSafe® Control of Work systems developed by Cresent specifically for BP Iraq. The training will also give Iraqi personnel an opportunity to see first-hand how a UK asset operates.
“We are incredibly proud of this achievement, as this contract is not focused solely on one of our products. We are delivering a contract that involves every single part of the Cresent service offering,” said managing director Tracie Watson.

The company has been operating in the Middle East for a number of years, but this will be its first contract in Iraq. The company has developed a bespoke package specifically for in line with the clients’ needs and objective to install an electronic Control of Work system to build a safe and competent workforce. WorkSafe® went live at Rumaila in mid-November.

Cresent’s health and safety products are used by a range of clients working in potentially hazardous environments for a client base predominately in the oil and gas sector.
