Iraq’s Electricity Ministry will hold a conference for international power companies to discuss potential improvements to the country’s worrying levels of generating capacity.

The one-day conference has been earmarked for September 26, and will be held in Erbil, in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

A statement on the ministry’s website indicates that the conference will be of especial interest to EPC and OE (overhead electric) firms. It is being directly organised by the Directorate for Gas Power Plants Projects.

The objectives of the conference are to attract experienced EPC and consultancy companies to work on construction and engineering projects, and to identify new sites for a range of new power plants.

The statement says that interested parties must email the ministry no later than 18 September, and filled pre-qualification questionnaires must be completed and returned by 21 September.

Iraq has already signed key deals with GE and Siemens to build new gas power stations in the country, with a combined total capacity of 12,000MW.

More information about the conference is available here.
