The Oman Shipping Company has signed an order for a new build LNG Carrier with South Korea’s maritime giant Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The LNG Carrier, set for delivery in 2014, will have a 162,000 cubic meter capacity, and have dual fuel technology, making it able to run off LNG or diesel.

The vessel will also comply with European “Green Certificate” requirements, as well as be capable of acting as a training vessel for up to 6 Trainees and an Instructor at any one time.

OSC already owns and operates a fleet of 5 LNG Carriers, which are all technically managed “In-house” by Oman Ship Management Company.

Hyundai Heavy Industries accounts for a quarter of global shipbuilding capacity, with 89,000 workers across the group capable of completing 200 new vessels a year.

Oman Shipping Company is owned by the Government of the Sultanate of Oman through the Ministry of Finance (80%) and Oman Oil Company (20%).
