The Jordanian government has signed an agreement with the Qatraneh Electric Power Company (QEPC) to build a US$455 million power generation plant at Qatraneh.

The Jordan Times reported that QEPC, a consortium comprising of the Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO) and Saudi Arabia’s Zenel Company will construct the 375 megawatt facility and run it on a the build-operate-own basis over 25 years.

The contracts signed included the land leasing agreement with the ministry of finance, the executive agreement with the ministry of energy and mineral resources and the water provision agreement with the water authority.

November 2010 has been given as the date for the first simple cycle phase of the project with the second combined cycle phase becoming operative in August 2011.
