Demand for dry-docking in the Middle East has decreased in recent times, while float repair requests are on the rise, according to an industry insider.
Mark Pearson, deputy general manager, Albwardy Marine Engineering revealed that while dry-docking figures have dropped off slightly recently, demand for other services has increased.
“This year we have had to change our balance a little bit. Our bottom line hasn’t changed, we are still talking about the same numbers but the balance of repairs has changed,” Pearson remarked.
“Now we are doing more new builds and more float repairs. We are still doing dry-docking but not as many. One of the main areas of our business was dry-docking dredgers and there is not as much dredging going on, so not as much dry-docking. But there is an awful lot of float repairs at the anchorage because there are more ships at the anchorage,” he added.
Pearson also revealed Albwardy is looking to relocate from its current base on the creek in Dubai to another location, possibly in Dubai Maritime City.
