Aberdeen firm launches new InnerArmor interior coating

InnerArmor set to double the life of North Sea equipment.

Advanced Coatings Initiative (ACI), an Aberdeen based coating specialists has launched an innovative interior coating for the oil and gas industry.  InnerArmor has the potential to double the life expectancy of a range of equipment, such as pumps, valves and drilling equipment, used in the oil and gas industry worldwide.

“ACI has built its reputation from producing coatings for a wide range of industries, including the oil and gas sector, and this new technology represents a breakthrough by having the ability to provide substantial protection to the internal surfaces and very often complex geometry’s of industrial components,” said Jim Davidson, managing director of ACI.

“InnerArmor will have a significant, positive impact on the finances of many of our existing and future clients and it highlights our commitment to bringing innovative new technology and solutions to our customer base,” he added.

The coating technology has been developed after a research and development programme led by ITI Energy, the Aberdeen-based new energy technology institute, and is licensed from California-based materials science specialists, Sub-One Technology, who developed the surface coating concept.

“We are very excited to have ACI now representing the technology as the first European licensee, I am sure we will see a significant amount of new business being generated which will create further investment and employment opportunities across Scotland,” said Mark Gore, Sub-One president in Europe.

Potential savings through increased operating life cycles is said to represent millions of pounds of savings to the global oil and gas industry annually.  ACI has installed two coating machines in their facilities at Portlethen, Aberdeen, representing a six-figure investment for the firm so far.
