Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika has called for increasing oil and gas investments, and to explore for oil and gas nationwide.
Bouteflika, in a meeting with executives of the energy and mining sector to get acquainted with its performance, called for paying more attention to new and renewable energies, and to better exploit mines.
He urged a fresh evaluation of the petrochemical projects as well as boosting gas revenues.
“We have to work more effectively towards exploration operations,” said the president. “We should also seek national financing and encourage contributions of highly-qualified foreign partners to make a better use of our important storage of iron and phosphate,” said Bouteflika.
Minister of energy and mining Youcef Yousufi said oil and gas production would realise a leap in order to honour domestic and international demands.
He said electricity output was 4,000 megawatts, which would thus facilitate power linkage nationwide. Yousufi said the ministry planned to establish three solar stations.
