ADNOC ahead of the curve on emissions

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) last month stressed its commitment to the Kyoto Agreements Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) relating to the reduction of carbon emissions

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) last month stressed its commitment to the Kyoto Agreements Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) relating to the reduction of carbon emissions, by revealing that it intends to fit emissions reduction technology to its downstream facilities.

“We will implement all of our future projects according to the framework of the Kyoto agreement, but this measure is on top of achieving 80% success in reducing carbon stack emissions over the last 12 years,” said Kamal Morsi, production and facilities engineering manager, onshore division, ADNOC.

At the Ruwais Fertilizer Industries (FERTIL) emission reduction will be achieved using carbon dioxide recovery technology to recover CO2 from the flue gases for productive use in the synthesis of urea, thus reducing the atmospheric emissions.

“An EPC was awarded in August 2007, and the production of the carbon dioxide recovery plant will be finalised before commissioning of the project in Q3 2009,” said Morsi.

The petrochemical sector relies heavily on sensing instrumentation for various aspects of its operation including pressure monitoring, and temperature, gas and moisture regulation. “The selection of product previews and new products were chosen to address the demanding requirements of the industry, and a wider theme of working together to deliver sustainable growth,” said Hempenstall.
