Bahrain is holding talks on the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with Russian energy companies Gazprom and Rosneft, Bahrain’s Oil Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Khalifa has told Sputnik news.

“As for the supplies of liquefied natural gas to Bahrain, now we are negotiating on the issue with two Russian companies — Gazprom and Rosneft. Gazprom has more resources,” the minister said.

Earlier, Bahrain’s National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and Gazprom had signed a memorandum of understanding on expansion of cooperation in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector, while Russia’s Rosgeologia company and NOGA inked an agreement on strengthening cooperation in geological surveying for production of oil and natural gas.

On March 30, President Vladimir Putin said Russia will become the world’s largest LNG producer.

Nogaholding, has recently marked the financial close of its LNG Terminal Project with Bahrain LNG WLL, the developer and owner of the first LNG receiving and regasification terminal to be developed on a PPP basis in the Middle East.

Jointly owned by the Oil and Gas Holding Company (nogaholding 30%) and a consortium consisting of Teekay LNG Partners LP (Teekay LNG 30%), Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC 24.5%) and Samsung C&T (Samsung 16.5%), the Bahrain LNG Terminal is a key component of the further expansion of the energy and related sectors of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
