Swiss contractor ABB has announced that it  has won an order worth US$31 million from West Delta Electricity Production Company in Alexandria for products to equip a new power plant that will help meet growing demand for electricity in Egypt.

ABB will provide engineering support and power products including various types of transformers as well as generator circuit breakers. The Abu Qir thermal plant will be powered by two 650-megawatt steam generators. The project is expected to be completed in 2012.
 
“ABB technology will contribute significantly to the reliability and efficiency of the new plant.,” Peter Leupp, head of ABB’s Power Systems division said.

“Our domain expertise and proven track record in managing similar projects will play a key role in ensuring successful execution,” he added.

WDEPC is one of Egypt’s leading power generation utilities, supplying electricity to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, and to distribution companies around the country.

ABB also recently announced that it has won large contracts in Algerian and Saudi Arabia.
