Qatar’s energy minister, Abdullah al-Attiyah has said that demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) will grow rapidly in the long-term global and that the current slump will soon be over.

News agency Reuters reported that the Qatari official said that his country would benefit from countries looking for cleaner energy sources and security of supply.

“Demand for gas is huge, and gas is one of the chosen fuels for reducing emissions…we are seeing that demand is growing fast,” Attiyah is reported by Reuters as saying.

Attiyah was speaking at an energy conference in the Netherlands. The European state is one of several in the region that is looking to diversify its energy sources by negotiating LNG contracts with Qatar. Germany is another country said to be interested in Qatar’s vast reserves of natural gas.
