Iran and Switzerland in new round of gas talks

Iran and Switzerland are to start a new round of gas talks in Tehran shortly in order to discuss putting the Save X energy saving project into operation, local media has reported.

The project’s main objectives are to increase the efficiency of gas facilities and power plants, pipelines and power plants, Tehran Times has reported.

The contract for the Save X project was signed by the National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC) and a Swiss company in March last year and aims to decrease the gas consumption of facilities by 30-40%.

A deal was also signed for the delivery of 5 billion cubic metres of gas per year over 25 years between NIGEC and Switzerland’s Elektrizitaetsgesellschaft. This deal was intended to ease Bern’s dependency on gas from Russia.

The managing director of National Iranian Oil Co recently told media that Switzerland and Turkey are in talks to pave the way for the delivery of Iranian gas.
