Schlumberger’s Avocet platform for production operations management scooped the 2011 Oil & Gas Middle East gong for Best Technology Implementation Award at a glittering ceremony in Dubai.

Hosted by ITP Business, the packed house at the Westin Hotel in Dubai heard that executive judging were looking for real, in-play solutions that raised performance out in the field.

In a hotly contested field, featuring highly commended technology offerings from Saudi Aramco, ABB, Aveva and Emerson, Schlumberger nailed the judges favour with the Avocet offering on account of the fact it tackles a significant problem faced by operators in the field of Production Operations Management.

Going beyond traditional solutions, the winner’s breakthrough PDMS product not only harnesses accurate data, but also allows operators to retrieve reservoir pressure and temperature in real time during the test, as well as controlling downhole equipment. With 10 successful jobs performed, local customers were on hand to verify downhole tool operations and manage unexpected events.

“The impact on production is really outstanding,” said Tamer Fawzy, vice president of Schlumberger Middle East (SIS).

“Delivering operational value through minimal investment is no doubt what caught the judge’s eye. We are expecting a tsunami of interest in the coming months. We have had a phenomenal level of interest and the deployment in the Middle East has genuinely been instrumental in building interest worldwide,” said Fawzy.

“This award is a fantastic validation of what we knew in-house, but it’s great to see that the judges agreed with us,” he added.
