Celebrations rang out for Drydocks World’s Dubai unit last night when it retained its title for the Middle East Health and Safety Initiative of the year at the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards in Dubai.
Collecting the Award, Mark Morris, director of technical services, and responsible for overall HSE compliance and performance, said that the award was a fitting tribute to the hard work put in throughout 2011.
“We work well as a team and the commitment to Health and Safety comes right from the top. We put our workforce first and eliminate any risks as far as possible. What’s being celebrated tonight is our “Talk safety, Walk Safety” campaign. All of our workforce are empowered to take action and report up in a no blame culture.”
Morris said the monthly think-tank and in-house awards had been instrumental in fostering a sense of better safety in a challenging environment.
“Our employees are rewarded with voucher certificates for good ideas and that helps us foster a culture of 100% engagement throughout the organisation.”
The encouragement of best practices continues beyond the yard, and that has also made a significant difference.
“Our employees who are living in company accommodation are effectively under our responsibility through the whole life cycle. Be it during work hours or in free time we endeavour to give each and every person the tools and training necessary to ensure their own wellbeing.”
Morris added: “We put a lot of effort into the welfare of our workforce and this award is recognition of the fact the business is doing the right things in the right way.
