A senior official from the Missan province in Iraq has said that the winning bidders for the development contract for the al-Halfaya oilfield in the region will start work in February.
Aswat al-Iraq reported that Amer Nasrallah, the chairman of the Missan Provincial Council’s energy committee said that the consortium led by the Chinese state-owned energy giant CNPC is wasting no time in its plans for the super giant field.
“The CNPC, Total and Petronas companies will start upgrading the Halfaya oilfield, (25 km) east of al-Amara city in February,” Nasrallah, the chairman of the Missan Provincial Council’s energy committee, is reported by Aswat al-Iraq as saying.
“A delegation led by the director general of the Chinese Oil Company, who is in charge of Iraq oil contracts, had paid a field visit to Halfaya within preparations to start developing the oilfield,” he added.
The contract for the 16 billion barrel al-Halfaya was signed in Baghdad on January 27 by officials from CNPC and the other members of the consortium Total and Petronas.
