The nominations for the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards 2014 are now open; this year’s categories focus on the people who bring excellence to the industry

The Middle East’s upstream oil and gas industry will gather in Abu Dhabi for the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards on Wednesday 8th October. Hosted by ITP Business, publisher of arabianoilandgas.com and Oil & Gas Middle East, the fifth edition of the awards will bring together industry leaders for an evening of networking and celebration in the nation’s capital.

The Oil & Gas Middle East Awards will celebrate excellence in the region’s upstream industry, rewarding individuals and projects that have gone the extra mile, and shown innovation and operational excellence.

From young engineers on the first rungs on the career ladder, to the project manager who has completed projects on time and on budget, right through to exemplary leadership at the top – the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards will identify key performers responsible for positioning the Middle East at the heart of the world’s energy sector.

The Oil & Gas Middle East Awards will focus on the people and the projects and bring together the full scope of upstream professionals in the Middle East region.

Indiviual Awards

Drilling Engineer of the Year
Drilling engineers design and implement procedures to drill wells as safely and economically as possible. They work closely with the drilling contractor, service contractors and compliance personnel, as well as with geologists and other technical specialists. This award champions the drilling engineer who has not only adhered to the drilling budget, but has exceeded annual targets, including those related to health, safety and the environment.

Project Supervisor of the Year
The project supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of project design, bulk material procurement and construction in addition to identifying, assessing and controlling potential risks. This award will recognise the project supervisor who has successfully completed assigned projects, within budget, on time and with no major hitches or disruptions.

Energy Executive of the Year
Senior managers are the drivers behind any oil & gas project. This award will look at a senior management executive’s contribution to developing not only their company and its projects and personnel, but to the regional oil & gas industry as a whole.

Exploration & Production Director of the Year
The exploration and production director oversees all aspects of their company’s exploration and production activities, as well as the output of wells, either onshore or offshore. This award will recognise the director’s success in discovering and developing new hydrocarbon reserves, and the performance of new and existing reserves.

Completions Manager of the Year
The completion engineer is responsible for planning and designing the wells ready for production of hydrocarbons and reservoir management. They work in teams with other disciplines, perform concept and method selection and risk assessments, evaluate and recommend required equipment, compile completion programmes and detailed procedures for installing the well equipment, as well as compile experience reports and final well reports. This award will recognise the completions engineer who has gone above and beyond in their job over the last 12 months

Maintenance Manager of the Year
Maintenance managers are in charge of making sure all of the equipment and the asset itself is kept in tip-top condition from its inception, throughout its lifetime until shut-down. They must continually ensure that all parts of the asset are operating smoothly. This award recognises the maintenance manager of the year for their work in ensuring the asset is maintained and no unplanned shutdowns occur due to equipment failure.

Offshore Installation Manager of the Year
The offshore installation manager (OIM) is the most senior manager of an offshore platform. The OIM is responsible for the health, welfare and safety of the personnel on board the installation, whether a drilling rig, production platform or a support vessel. This award will honour an OIM who has successfully kept the HSE record of the offshore facility flawless over the last 12 months.

Production Manager of the Year
The primary responsibility of the production manager is extraction of oil and gas from their original deposits through onshore and offshore drilling. The production manager manages the development and production of hydrocarbon discoveries, in compliance with all applicable regulations. This award will reward the production manager who has met and exceeded company expectations for their role.

Quality Control Manager of the Year
The quality control officer is responsible for ensuring and maintaining the quality of a project. They must resolve any quality related problems that may arise by managing the site inspection process; liaising with regulatory and standards bodies; and implementing and controlling design changes. This award recognises the work that a quality control manager must do to keep projects up to required standards.

Project Awards

CSR Initiative of the Year
Corporate social responsibility initiatives have become a priority for most companies in the oil & gas industry. This award will recognise a CSR programme that has provided demonstrable and lasting benefits to its targeted beneficiaries.

HSE Initiative of the Year
Health, safety & environment is the cornerstone of the oil & gas industry. This award will recognise a specific initiative that has helped to reduce accidents and problems in the workplace. .

Localisation Strategy of the Year
Localisation is now at the top of the agenda of the region’s NOCs. This award will recognise a successful localisation strategy, how it has been implemented, what benefits it offers the company and the employee and how successful the strategy has been.

New Gas Project of the Year
With several shale gas pilot projects under-way, as well as conventional and sour gas projects, it is an exciting time for gas in the Middle East. This project-based award will look at a Middle East-based gas project that has been completed during the previous 18 months, or is scheduled to complete before October 2014.

New Oil Project of the Year
This project award looks at both conventional and unconventional oil extraction projects that have been completed over the last 18 months, or are due for completion before October 2014.

Technical Innovation Award
IT and technology are becoming the backbone of the modern upstream operation, from digital oilfields to 3D modelling and pipeline sensors. This project-based award will recognise a project that demonstrates a successful and innovative technical solution to an upstream oil and gas problem.

Oil Field Services Project of the Year
This award will look for the most successful and innovative completed oil field services project in the Middle East region over the last 18 months. It is open to small, medium and large projects.
