StatoilHydro has announced that the Iraqi government has invited it for talks in connection with the company developing the Nahr Bin Umar oilfield in southern Iraq.
“We have been invited to negotiate a contract for the development of the oilfield,” a spokeswoman for the company, Mari Dotterud told Reuters, the news gathering agency.
“We don’t know the terms, conditions or the timing… (and) we have not made any investment decisions yet,” she added.
According to Dotterud, StatoilHydro is not the only company that has been invited for talks and other oil companies from outside Iraq are said to be interested in developing the field, which is about 20km north of the city of Basra.
There are 30 foreign oil companies that have pre-qualified for Iraq’s licensing round, of which StatoilHydro is one.
