Contractors have been approached by Qatar Petroleum (QP) to conduct a number of consultancy studies for a masterplan covering Halul Island, the offshore export and storage facility, 80km northeast of Qatar capital Doha.
The studies will enable the state-owned energy company to figure out capacities for the centre’s infrastructure work, crude oil storage and utilities networks.
QP is looking to award the contract by the thrid quarter of 2009 so will be issue a tender very shortly.
Halul is used as a hub for storing crude from at least five offshore oil fields. It is then transferred to tankers.Â
In 2008 an expansion plan was launched that included the refurbishment of the harbour to accommodate larger vessels.
