Sogat opens with spotlight on Shah Gas

Adnoc executive delivers opening speech for 5th Abu Dhabi conference

This year’s Sour Oil & Gas Advanced Technology Conference (Sogat), the 5th of its kind to date, was officially opened yesterday at the Hilton Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Delivering his keynote speech at the launch of the conference, Ismail Al-Ramahi, manager of the gas processing division, Adnoc, was keen to emphasise the importance of the event for gas conditioning, and highlighted the ongoing Shah Gas Development project.

“This Sogat event is now established as one of the premier events worldwide on gas conditioning and sulphur by product management. The technical papers will most certainly reflect this, many of which are relevant to our ongoing developments here in Abu Dhabi,” said Al-Ramahi.

The Shah Gas Development project is targeting natural gas condensate reservoirs in the onshore Shah Gas Field, found 180km southwest of Abu Dhabi. The joint venture between Adnoc and the US’ ConocoPhillips will involve the construction of a one billion ft3/day gas processing plant, new gas and liquid pipelines and a sulphur exporting facility.

“We are privileged to listen and learn from the plans for the Shah Gas Development project, which may set a new international benchmark in sour gas field development,” he continued. “Also, the vital areas of concern in integrity and safety engineering experiences from European oil companies will benefit our overall planning.”

“May we thank the organisers – Dome Exhibitions – for their efforts in arranging this event that brings together so many international experts, who contribute significantly to the debate on the future technical and management issues to be met in the Gulf Region and particularly here in Abu Dhabi.”
