Iran’s gasoline consumption hit 69.4 million litres per day in the third month of this Iranian year. The third month of the Iranian calendar runs from May 21 to June 21.

Gasoline consumption on April 1 was 101 million litres and 53.5 million litres on April 25, representing this spring’s highest and lowest gasoline consumption rates respectively.

Deputy Director of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), Shahrokh Khosravani, said that Iran will have the capacity to export 20 million litres of gasoline per day as of next year.

“Currently, the country produces 60 million litres of gasoline per day,” said Khosravani.

He added that Iran’s gasoline consumption currently is around 70 million litres per day, with the country having to import 10 million litres of gasoline each day.
“But once the Persian Gulf Star refinery’s gasoline production unit comes on stream, the country’s total production capacity will reach 96 million litres per day,” he said.

Only recently, Iran’s deputy petroleum minister, Abbas Kazemi stated that Iran will be self sufficient in high-quality gasoline production by March 2016.

“Based on plans, with the implementation of the first phase of the Persian Gulf Star Refinery, the quality of gasoline production in the country’s refineries will increase and we will be able to become exporter of standard and high-quality gasoline,” said Kazemi.

He said the Iran will produce euro-5 grade gasoline from a second refinery which the Petroleum Ministry plans to build in Abadan.
