Gastech to discuss changing role of IOCs

Abu Dhabi gas conference to look at changing face of the industry

A major conference for the natural gas industry held in Abu Dhabi next month has announced that the main topic of discussion will be the differing roles of the international oil companies (IOCs) versus national oil companies (NOCs).

Held between 25-28 May the Gastech 2009 exhibition at the Abu Dhabi Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) is now in its 37th year and is now believed to be one of the most popular energy conferences in the region.

“At the last Gastech we enjoyed discussing the concept of IOCs versus NOCs – in terms of how future gas assets are developed and monetised,” said Paul Young, Gastech’s conference co-chair and chief marketing officer with LNG carriers Exmar NV.

“The world has changed – are we now heading back to financially strong IOCs being again welcomed back as partners for the NOCs?  Will future gas projects also need the support of a fixed buyer or offtaker to facilitate the financing of the ventures?  Walking the halls of the Gastech Exhibition will provide some of these answers,” he added.

Over 300 exhibitors from almost 40 countries will be taking part.
