A consortium including two of India’s largest oil companies could launch a bid to secure the development contract for the Halfaya oilfield in Iraq at the Gulf state’s second licensing round of oil auctions.

The Times of India reported that Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Oil India could form a consortium with the Turkish Petroleum Corporation for the field, which is classed as super giant with reserves of around 5 billion barrels.

The Iraq Oil Ministry has estimated that the production from Halfaya is 250,000 barrels per day (bpd).

Other fields that have been made available include East Baghdad, Badrah, Middle Furat, Majnoon, West Qurna, Gharaf, the Eastern field, Naimah and Qayarah.
