UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has introduced a work ban during the scorching summer months. Starting today, the ban will be in effect until September 15, Arabian Business reported.

Every day, a midday work break will be enforced from 12:30 PM to 3 PM.

The Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of employees and has been implementing the midday work break for the past 19 years consecutively.

According to the announcement, this initiative guarantees a secure working environment and shields workers from heat-related risks during the summer season.

This decision aligns with Ministerial Decision No. (44) of 2022, which aims to prioritize workers’ occupational health and safety, protecting them from potential hazards and occupational diseases, as stated in a press release.

The prohibition involves a restriction on daily working hours, both in the morning and evening, limiting them to a maximum of eight hours. Additionally, employers must provide shaded areas to ensure the well-being of workers during their break time.

Mohsen Al-Nasi, the Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs, emphasized the significance of this decision, highlighting that “the health and safety of workers is a fundamental aspect of labor market legislation.”
