Halliburton wins completions contract for carbon capture project

Halliburton, the US-based energy major, has been granted a contract to carry out well completions on the HyNet North West carbon capture and storage initiative in the United Kingdom.

This entails supplying completions, liners, and monitoring products and services for the project situated in Liverpool Bay.

To fulfill this contract, Halliburton will manufacture and deliver the necessary equipment from its completion manufacturing center in Arbroath, Scotland.

The HyNet project, which marks the UK’s first commissioned carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiative, aims to decarbonise industrial emitters by storing carbon dioxide in depleted reservoirs beneath Liverpool Bay.

The endeavor encompasses a minimum of 40 distinct projects and also involves the production and storage of hydrogen.

As part of the project, Italian energy company Eni is repurposing underground pipelines to transport carbon dioxide.

Jean Marc Lopez, the Vice President for Europe, Eurasia, and Sub-Saharan Africa at Halliburton, expressed enthusiasm about contributing innovative well completions and monitoring solutions to this groundbreaking CCS project.

He also emphasised that the opportunity to expand their completions operations and demonstrate Halliburton’s leadership in CCS projects.
