Petrofac has announced the winning of two major contracts in the UK Continental Shelf and the Middle East.

The British oil and gas services company said that its offshore projects and perations business unit had been awarded a $500mn contract in Iraq to provide construction management services and staff to BP Iraq NV and its partners on the Rumaila field near Basra in the south of the country.

According to the statement, the company will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of multiple construction projects, including supervising work undertaken by third-party contractors.

Petrofac has also been chosen to provide engineering and construction support for Chevron’s assets in the Central North Sea – the Captain, Alba, and Erskine platforms. The contract, worth $120mn, is for a period of up to three years plus two one-year options.

The oilfield engineering services supplier said in the statement that it was planning to employ more than 70 staff offshore and onshore in order to execute and deliver the services. The deal is valued at up to $500mn, with the contract running for three years. It also offers an option for a two-year extension.

The news has come after in August the company announced that it had won a refinery contract with state-backed Petronas in Malaysia. The deal was worth more than $500mn and included a refinery package in Petronas’ Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang, Malaysia.

Walter Thain, senior vice president, Europe, said: “We’re delighted to have been selected to support Chevron North Sea Limited with our operationally focused scalable engineering delivery model.”

Mani Rajapathy, senior vice president, MENA/CIS, commented: “The award builds on an established track record for Petrofac in Iraq, in particular at Rumaila, dating back to 2011. We look forward to sharing in the continued success of the regeneration of Rumaila.”
