Algeria’s state-owned energy giant Sonatrach has announced that it has made two further oil discoveries in southern Algeria, bring the number of new finds in the North African state to 11 this year.
The first discovery, was a gas discovery, made in association with Petroceltic International Plc, following the drilling of AT – 1 (Ain Tsila-1) well.
The well is located in Isarene permit (Blocks 228/229a), in the Illizi basin, and produced 9124 m3/ hour of gas and 1.58 m3/hour of condensate from the Ordovicien reservoir, unite IV in the interval 1915-1919 with head pressure of 1458psi under pressure 32/64.
The second well was with China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC),Sonatrach said drilling in Block 438B had encountered oil twice, with flows of 2.6 cubic meters per hour and 12.2 cubic meters per hour. CNPC owns 100% of the Block 438B project and Sonatrach is the concessionary and partner on the block.
