The National Iranian Drilling Company has entered the final stage of drilling of in the Kish gas field.
The large field is close to the southern island of Kish where the company is drilling 13 wells with the aim of producing one billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas per day.
The National Iranian Oil Company discovered the Kish gas field in 2006, 30 km east of Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf. It holds about 66 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas, of which 50 tcf are recoverable.
The gas field will be developed in three phases. At the end of the first phase of the field is expected to produce 3 bcf of gas, 45,000 barrels of natural gas condensates and 2.9 bcf of low-density gas per day.
The managing director of Petroleum Engineering and Development Company, Abdolreza Haji-Hosseinnejad said the giant gas field will become operational in November 2015. The company is developing the Kish gas field.
The Kish gas field has a length of about 32.2 kilometers and a width of 22.5 kilometers with reserves lying at a depth of 3,800 to 4,300 meters.
