L&T secures major EPC contracts in Saudi Arabia

India’s top engineering and construction conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced that its Power Transmission and Distribution business has secured multiple EPC orders in the current quarter to build transmission lines and substations in Saudi Arabia.

The contract, which is in the range of $121.4 million to $303.6 million, will see L&T undertake engineering, design, procurement and construction of more than 400 km of 380kV overhead transmission lines and a new 230kV gas insulated substation with associated automation and protection systems.

The new contract win come close on the heels of securing multiple orders from the Saudi Arabia – to build a 380kV overhead line that will primarily help boost the reliability of the grid in the Western region of the kingdom – and the UAE – for new 132kV substations.

Last year, the Indian construction giant bagged similar orders from the GCC, including a 380kV overhead transmission line and substations in Kuwait and the contract for setting up a dynamic reactive power compensator system at a 220kV substation in Abu Dhabi.

L&T pointed out that these repeat orders from the largest electric energy system provider in Mena region demonstrate the core strengths of the business and the customer confidence it has gained over decades of its association in the kingdom.

The transmission network strengthening augurs well for providing reliable, safe and efficient electricity supply as Saudi Arabia embarks on an ambitious National Renewable Energy Program towards attaining optimal generation mix as envisaged in its strategic vision for 2030, it added
