Oman is set to open a new institute for oil and gas professionals in 2016, the undersecretary at the Ministry of Oil and Gas Salim bin Nasser Al Oufi has said.Â
The new Takatuf Petrofac Oman Institute will receive its first group of 500 trainees, all holders of general education diplomas and technical diplomas, at the end of next year, with its capacity set to increase to accommodate 1000 students, Al Oufi added.Â
Ibrahim Al Harthy, acting chief executive officer of Takatuf Oman, said the institute, a partnership project between Takatuf Oman (with a 60% stake) and Petrofac (with a 40% stake), would provide two-year training programmes in oil and gas related fields.
The programme will provide training in operations, engineering, mechanical repairs, electricity as well as health, safety and environment (HSE). Trainees will also enroll on English language courses, project management and personal skills development.
The institute, which is the first of its kind in the Sultanate, will also provide a simulator for oil and gas operations, to create real work experiences for students.
Once qualified, graduates of the institute will be hired by oil and gas companies operating in Oman.
Takatuf Oman is a specialised company in providing human resource services to oil and gas companies in Oman and Petrofac is one of the major international oil services companies in the region.
Petrofac is heavily involved in training and education in a number of GCC countries such as Saudi Arabia.Â
The institute would benefit from Petrofac International’s experience in the oil, gas and engineering sectors, said Al Oufi.
