The Energy and Environment Park (Enpark) is looking into ways to save electricity in its developments, in order to reduce the ‘heavy’ consumption of power in the UAE.

Ali bin Towaih, executive director of Enpark, revealed: “The UAE is a heavy consumer of electricity and we are constantly seeking ways to reduce this consumption.”

Enpark recently announced a pilot project involving a solar powered street lamp is underway, with the first unit installed in Dubai Media City. “This lamp is just a sample installation to test the performance of the lamp.  It will allow us to measure the effectiveness of this particular lamp type and see its capabilities.  Upon satisfactory completion of this pilot project, we can expect more solar powered lamps to be installed,” bin Towaih commented.

The lamp has been installed in collaboration with Zala Energy and Germany-based firm Ralos. It provides lighting to a 25 metre area using only solar energy.

Bin Towaih added that under Enpark’s sustainable development policy, all projects within its zone must achieve a minimum of LEED Gold certification standard.
