Cabinet decision is point of customer contact

More attention needs to be paid to the design of metering cabinets used by power and water suppliers.

More attention needs to be paid to the design of metering cabinets used by power and water suppliers.

That’s according to Alain Emonet, export manager for Seifel, which designs and manufactures a range of enclosures for use by utilities.

“Our enclosures are used by various distribution networks – electricity, water and gas – to protect the sensitive equipment, both installed on the network and at the customer connection,” he said.

“The product must achieve its technical aim, but it also [represents] the image of the utility and the start of the customer promise. Utilities are very sensitive to the look of the solution and the service it brings. We use different technical specifications for each design, specific to the request of the client.”

The harsh marine environment conditions in Gulf coastal cities are seen as an opportunity by Emonet, rather than a challenge. According to Emonet, the plastic composites used in the manufacture of the enclosures are designed to withstand such environmental factors and won’t rust or have sealing failures.

“It is a 100% recyclable material and even in 30 years time it will have exactly the same mechanical characteristics,” he said.

Seifel’s equipment has been used on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai.
