Algeria’s Energy Minister, Chakib Khelil, has spoken of his country’s commitment to investing a significant amount of money to increase its gas transport capacity.
“It has been decided to increase the current gas transport capacity by over 50% by 2013, and a total of US$ 5 billion will be invested to that end,” Khelil told Arabies, a magazine published in Paris.
The extension of transport capacities has become a necessity in view of the huge programme meant for the development of gas and oil fields over 2009-2013. Â
The construction of the Med-Gas pipeline is expected to be operational by the end of this year, and will link the city of Arzew on the west coast of Algeria with the Spanish city of Almeria.
