Additional capacity will be added to the UAE storage facility for liquified natural gas (LNG) in Jebel Ali, the Energy Minister said at a ministry event.
“Dubai will announce [it] once they land on the capacity … but definitely it’s an upgrade from the existing 3MN tonnes,” Suhail Mohammad Faraj Al Mazroui, the Energy Minister was quoted by Gulf News as saying.
However, he did not say by how much the LNG facility capacity would be extended or whether the upgrade will be added to DP World’s Jebel Ali Terminal.
The announcement comes at a time of growing demand for clean energy with the UAE already planning an LNG import facility in Fujairah which will have an annual design capacity of 9m tonnes.
Last year, Dubai Supply Authority’s (DUSUP) announced plans to replace its 3mn tonne LNG Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) with a 4.5mn tonne capacity offshore unit in April this year.
