Shelf Drilling has received an award from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for operations in the Mumbai High region, offshore India.
Operations are expected to begin in Q2 2023, and will continue for a three-year period.
The contract is for the C.E. Thornton jack-up rig, the Oslo-listed firm said in a statement on Thursday. No further details have been revealed by either of the two parties.
The C.E. Thornton is a 300-foot jack-up drilling unit with a Marathon LeTourneau 53-SC design. The rig was built in 1974, and can accommodate up to 113 people. It was last upgraded in 1984.
Mumbai High, formerly Bombay High, is located in the Arabian Sea and is one of the largest offshore oilfields in India. The area consists of two blocks – Mumbai High North and Mumbai High South – which started production in 1976.

The UAE-based company secured another long-term contract earlier this year with ONGC for the F.M. McClintock jack-up rig, which is also contracted to carry out work offshore India.
