The central processing facility that is being constructed as part of the US$9 billion Manifa offshore oilfield project in Saudi Arabia is to process 1 billion cubic feet per day (cfd) of natural gas.

State-owned energy company Saudi Aramco told news agency Reuters that the processing plant will be supplied with gas from the offshore fields Arabiyah and Hasbah. Both fields were recently discovered by the company and are close to the Manifa field.

Both Arabiyah and Hasbah have been fast-tracked due to the KSA’s souring domestic demand for natural gas. The Kingdom’s massive expansion of petrochemical, desalination and power generation facilities has meant that the country’s gas requirements have never been higher.

With numerous other mega projects due to come into operation over the next decade the demand for natural gas is expected to get even higher.

The two fields are expected to yield about 1 billion cfd when fully operational.
