Protestors in eastern Libya will reopen the seized oil port of Zueitina first once they have reached a final deal with the government.
The Opec producer desperately needs its seized ports to open again for business, ending a 600,000 bpd strangle hold that is currently choking the life out of the country’s economy.
Zueitina is the smallest of the three ports currently being occupied by the protesters since June 2013.
“Zueitina could open within two days,” said Essam al-Jahani, a member of the protester’s leadership team.
He said talks with the government were still ongoing to discuss the rebel demands to move state institutions such as the central bank to Benghazi and the possibility of a vote over whether to introduce a federalist system.
