Iran’s petrochemical exports increased by about 1% to $ 10.723 billion during the last Iranian calendar year according to FARS News Agency.
Hassan Khosrojerdi, head of the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters Union, said Iran’s petrochemical exports increased to $10.723 billion last year from $10.165 billion a year earlier.
He said Asian, African and Eastern European countries were the main buyers of Iran’s petrochemical products last year, and added that the industry has capacity to export to more world markets.
Over the past few years, Iran has significantly increased the range and volume of its petrochemical products, and the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) has become the second biggest producer and exporter of petrochemicals in the Middle East, next only to Saudi Arabia.
In the new Iranian calendar year that began on March 21, 2014, Iran’s petrochemical exports are likely to touch $12 billion, as per NPC estimates.
This year, NPC is giving priority to completion of the 1,500 km long West Ethylene pipeline, which would carry feedstock to petrochemical plants that lie on its route stretching from Assaluyeh in southern Iran to West Azarbaijan province in north-western Iran, as well as cater to the feedstock requirements of Lorestan, Mahabad and Kurdestan petrochemical plants.
