Wissam Abu Taha, a 30-year-old engineer from Tenaris, has won Young Engineer of the Year at the 2011 Oil and Gas Middle East Awards in Dubai.
Having graduated as a mechanical engineer from the American University of Beirut in 2003, Abu Taha worked as a field engineer for an offshore construction firm in Abu Dhabi until 2006, subsequently joining Tenaris as coordinator for OCTG sales in Oman, Iraq, Yemen, Syria and Pakistan. He has since been made UAE country manager for Tenaris.
Judges were looking for nominee who displayed impressive aptitude, outperforming their peers over the last 12 months and Abu Taha was nominated by colleagues for the award.
“I’d like to thank my company for nominating me for this award – I always try to make the best of the opportunities that my company gives to me,” said Abu Taha on accepting his award. “I think in general I always try to understand my clients and give the best service to them, and I think we need to establish a partnership, to try to be close to them. I try to understand what they want, to offer all the technical support they need. The Middle East is a very important market for us, and we are always trying to offer the best service for our clients.”
