What a year!
2011 was the year that region’s upstream sector broke from the legacy of the financial crisis and looked to a new era of high-value, technically-demanding projects.
It also saw dramatic upheaval in several markets, the political and social legacies of which will continue to shape the sector for years to come. The best companies have thrived in an environment where risk has always gone hand-in-hand with reward.
On 12 December ITP Business hosted the 2011 Oil & Gas Middle East Awards at the Westin Hotel, Dubai, to celebrate the achievements of the finest companies and individuals in what remains the most significant hydrocarbons sector on earth.
The glittering ceremony reflected the strength and diversity of the industry, with celebrants hailing from China, Britain, South Korea, America and across the UAE, to name a few.
The awards were even more hotly contested than last year, with judges praising the quality of the nominees. The unenviable task of picking the winners fell on Dr Nick Coles, founder of the Sour and Gas Advanced Technology Forum and International Digital Oil Field Conference, and Terry Willis, managing director of EIC, with a little help from the editorial team at Oil & Gas Middle East.
Booming internal energy demand and a high and steady oil price have already primed the sector for yet more massive projects, technical ingenuity and logistical prowess next year.
