Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi has big plans to grow Qatar Petroleum. He signed a deal in February 2021 for the first phase of the North Field LNG expansion, which could boost the nation’s LNG output by 40% to 110 million tonnes a year by 2026. The project is worth a total of $28.7 billion, and QP is reportedly in talks to take on a Chinese partner for the project, shifting away from reliance on Western oil and gas companies. The company also signed a 10-year LNG sale and purchase agreement with Siinopec to supply 2 million tonnes per annum of LNG to China, starting in January 2022.
