Awards 2017: It is important to celebrate success

It is vital to recognise the bigger role played by the corporate stakeholders in driving growth, operational excellence and social responsivity, remarks Shaima AlAufi, manager, corporate communications services, Orpic

How big a role do you think the O&GME and RPME Awards, now in its 8th year, play in recognising and rewarding laudable work in the regional industry?

The O&GME and RPME Awards have been in the market for quite a long time and are credible awards recognising and appreciating leading players, innovative solutions and best practices across the oil and gas industry in both its upstream and downstream segments. Such awards represent a significant importance to Orpic as part of its value to aim for a leading performance in the refining and petrochemicals industry.

Why, according to you, is it important to celebrate success in the energy industry?

Success is crucial to the existence, development and sustainability of any business. We, at Orpic, believe that celebrating the success of our achievements is the beginning of yet more challenging but rewarding experience down the road. It has been said that ‘success is not always about greatness; it is about consistency’. Therefore, as we keep pushing the bars for operational excellence and consistency with our quality standards, it is also important to celebrate successes accordingly.

What is it about the Awards that made you decide to sponsor it?

In Orpic, we have many success stories that need to be heard and reached out starting from the current ongoing growth projects – Sohar Refinery Improvement Project (SRIP), Muscat-Sohar Product Pipeline (MSPP) project, and Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) project – to all the in-country value (ICV) contributions, corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and initiatives, as well as the environment enhancement programmes.

Therefore, sponsoring the achievements of the oil and gas sector across the Middle East reassures the fact that we are contributing to the most important sector in the world. We believe that the O&GME and RPME Awards platform is a great opportunity to stand out, compete and above all inspire other players in the market to be part of this regional acknowledgement.

How necessary do you think is it to recognise the stakeholders’ performance in the 12 categories of our Awards?

Orpic is committed to promoting and improving awareness of its projects through initiatives and operations both internally and externally, as well as our environmental programmes, ICV initiatives and CSR programmes. Therefore, it is vital to recognise the bigger role played by the corporate stakeholders in driving growth, operational excellence and social responsivity.

By recognising their remarkable contribution, you are offering an all-rounder campaign to boost both major businesses and their relevant stakeholders to strike a balance that would, without a doubt, positively impact businesses, individuals and communities, while at the same time optimise the maximum opportunity to enhance the in-country value.

How far do you think our efforts to highlight downstream operations, along with recognising achievements in the upstream segment, through the Awards are justified?

Introducing these additional categories to the Awards will definitely help in creating a solid downstream platform, inviting more companies to showcase their efforts, best practices and initiatives on sour gas and sulphur management, logistics and water management. The combination of these categories is necessary to emphasise on the fact that the downstream sector plays no less importance than the upstream sector and that the value optimised from every single drop of oil is a mutual interest of both segments.
