SABIC honoured for sponsoring programme to mark International Day of Older Persons

SABIC has invested more than $0.80bn in various projects and initiatives to serve the community in different areas.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Development of Saudi Arabia honoured SABIC for its sponsorship of the ministry’s programme to mark the International Day of Older Persons at the Elderly Care Home in Riyadh on 1 October 2017.

Ahmed Al-Humaidan, deputy minister of labour and social development, presented an honorary plaque to SABIC, received on behalf of the company by Abdulaziz Al-Oudan, executive vice president, Human Resources.

Speaking at the function, Al-Oudan said he was proud of the cooperation between SABIC and the ministry to achieve the aspirations of the Kingdom’s leadership in line with Saudi Vision 2030, which stresses care and support for all members of society, including the elderly.

Al-Oudan pointed out that people’s welfare is a government priority. Vision 2030 specifically speaks of a ‘vibrant society with fulfilling lives’, which can only be achieved by ensuring the common people’s physical, psychological and social health. SABIC has developed a CSR strategy that shifts focus from supporting short-term community initiatives to programmes that bring long-term benefit to the community.

Al-Oudan further explained that SABIC realises the importance of social responsibility and the role it plays in developing societies and improving people’s quality of life. The company sees it as a long-term investment to promote productivity and prosperity. Through constructive partnerships, SABIC has developed distinct and sustainable programmes to serve society.

“Today, we are here to share the responsibility of caring for the elderly – whom we all love and respect. SABIC is here to contribute towards fulfilling the ambitious Vision 2030, which seeks to support the community and promote a culture of social responsibility,” commented Al-Oudan.

SABIC sponsored the International Day of Older Persons programme consistent with its support for health care in the Kingdom. The company recognises the importance of carrying out its national duty and serving Saudi society. Health care is one of SABIC’s focus areas under its CSR strategy, along with science and technology education, water and sustainable agriculture. “We are thus keen on collaborating with institutions that serve the elderly,” Al-Oudan revealed.

SABIC’s sponsorship is part of its social responsibility strategy and its support for national efforts that serve the elderly in various regions of the Kingdom. SABIC has invested more than $0.80bn in various projects and initiatives to serve the community in different areas.
