Yemen LNG has resumed operations, after completing its latest gas feed pipeline repair, the company said in a statement yesterday.
“Yemen LNG Company confirms that it has restarted normal operations on May 23, after pipeline repair,” the Total-led company said in an online statement. The pipeline was out of action since 29 April.
In late April the LNG gas pipeline carrying gas from the Ma’arib field for export at Balhaf was attacked, probably by Al Qaeda, who swore revenge for the killing of their militants after a spate of Yemeni security and US strikes. The pipeline had been repaired from a previous attack only days before the last shutdown.
The Ma’arib area’s proven gas reserves are sufficient to produce and export 6.7 million metric tonnes of LNG per annum to long-term customers in the North American and South Korean markets.
