ADIPEC 2017 preview Q&A: Honeywell

Interviewee: Norm Gilsdorf, President – Middle East, Russia, Turkey, and Central Asia, Honeywell

Honeywell has been supplying technologies to support the global oil and gas industry for over 100 years. Our portfolio of solutions and services help upstream, midstream, and downstream customers discover more value in their operations by delivering unprecedented control and efficiency at every point in the supply chain.

Our licensed processes generate the most value from every drop of oil, every cubic foot of natural gas, and every tonne of coal. Honeywell also delivers refining process technology and automation, helping  refine 40mn barrels of oil per day in nearly half of the world’s refineries.

We equip more than 50,000 tanks, the largest amount in the world, and facilitate operations on 40% of the world’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier fleet. Our solutions span 8,704km on the world’s longest gas pipeline. We also control almost 50% of all gasifiers in the world, and help reduce CO2 emissions equivalent to taking 85,000 cars off the road.

ADIPEC is an excellent platform to network with key decision makers and industry influencers, to learn about some of the exciting new developments and trends in the region, and of course, to showcase the latest additions to Honeywell’s oil and gas portfolio.

This year, our focus is on showcasing our software solutions for the oil and gas industry, which can maximise plant throughput and yields by 7%, improve plant availability by 2%, and protect the knowledge of the retiring workforce.

In fact, the industry offering of Honeywell Connected Plant, which offers integrated solutions that span the entire enterprise, can achieve a $26mn increase in profit per year (based on a medium-sized refinery in the US).

We are excited to be showcasing how Honeywell Connected Plant is connecting operational data to continually measure and improve optimal performance, making our customers’ operations more reliable, profitable, and secure. We do this by focusing on connected processes, connected assets, and connected people.

Connected processes

We use our ability to connect and manage real-time plant data with advanced software, analytics, and core operating exercises via Honeywell UOP and our plant experience, to deliver operational improvements and increase reliability. We do this by improving operations to drive unity performance, stabilise production and potentially avoid unplanned shutdowns, and sustain knowledge in our customers’ organisations.

Connected assets

We maximise asset performance and reliability. By applying analytics to process and equipment data, as well as deeper knowledge equipment analytics from our growing ecosystem of OEM (original equipment manufacturer) partners, we enable customers to make better and faster decisions around the operation of their assets.

Connected people

Connected people is about ensuring operators have the connected tools and are connected to data, in the moment, to best understand the condition of their plant and assets. We augment this with competency development programmes to ensure people have the right skills to best operate their assets, and continually measure this performance. We give customers’ workforces new tools to do their jobs better and more safely, increasing their competency and collaboration. We also help customers boost productivity, and lower compliance and administrative costs.

Another key topic we are addressing is security, both cyber and physical. We are showcasing [at ADIPEC] how Honeywell technologies are protecting the industry against existing and emerging threats, as well as how regional oil and gas operators can ensure the safety and security of their plants.
