Atlas Copco buys nitrogen generator company Gazcon

Acquisition adds nitrogen and oxygen generators to Atlas Copco range.

Swedish compressors manufacturer Atlas Copco has bought Danish generator company Gazcon, adding nitrogen and oxygen generators to their range.

Gazcon is based in Lynge, northwest of Copenhagen, where it designs and manufactures generators using technology known as pressure swing adsorption (PSA).

Nitrogen and oxygen gases are traditionally transported to customers through pipelines, bulk containers and cylinders.

The PSA technology, combined with air compressors and dryers, allows small and medium gas consumers to economically generate gases on site, reducing costs and decreasing emissions.

Gazcon had revenues in 2011 of around $4.4 million (SEK 30 million) and employs 21 people.

“With Gazcon we get an extensive range of on-site nitrogen and oxygen generator technology. This is an interesting growth opportunity which broadens our offering to several customer segments,” said Stephan Kuhn, business area president, Atlas Copco Compressor Technique.
