Qatargas and Nakilat reveal LNG carrier delivery

Nakilat and Qatargas have announced the delivery of a Q-Max LNG carrier, which will be chartered on a long term contract to Qatargas at its Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard on Geoje Island.

The LNG carrier, named Zarga, will be used to transport LNG produced by Qatar Liquefied Gas Company, known as Qatargas 4, to markets in North America, China and Dubai.

The Q-Max is one of the new generation of LNG mega ships which has 80% more capacity than conventional LNG carriers, with about 40% lower energy requirements due to the economies of scale created by the size and efficiency of the engines.

The Q-Max LNG carriers are purpose built for Nakilat and allow for the more efficient transport of natural gas.

Nakilat recently signed a joint venture agreement with Damen Shipyards Qatar Holding tp jointly operate a ship building facility in Ras Laffan, Qatar.
