PSN Emirates, a joint venture between PSN (Production Services Network) and Mubadala Petroleum Services Company, is delivering a technical paper at ADIPEC 2010 to discuss the importance of managing the risks associated with asset integrity and life extension.

PSN Emirates, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, is a specialist provider of operations and maintenance contracting services to the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry. Focussing on onshore and offshore brownfield production, services include detailed engineering; procurement; construction management; conceptual and Front End Engineering Design (FEED); project management; turnaround engineering and hook-up, commissioning and start-up management.

The paper titled: ‘Extending Life of Fixed Offshore Installations through Integrity Management: A structural overview’ considers how operators can extend the life of their offshore assets without compromising the integrity, reliability, productivity and most importantly the safety of assets.

Dr Mohammad Nabavian, global chief engineer of PSN’s Advanced Integrity Group (AIG) and the structural technical authority for a number of offshore platforms around the world is presenting the paper.

He explained why integrity management is so important to the success of an asset life extension programme, especially in today’s climate:

“KP4 – the next stage in the UK Health and Safety Executive’s Ageing & Life Extension Inspection Programme – has recently increased the profile and importance of structural integrity management across our industry. Operators assets in the UKCS are now subject to a greater level of scrutiny and this will undoubtedly have a ripple effect, putting pressure on operators around the world to take responsibility for managing the risks associated with asset integrity and life extension.

“Operators are keen to increase the value of their assets, many of which are well into, or currently exceed, their original design life. A robust Structural Integrity Management System (SIM) is therefore now seen as a function of critical importance to ensure continued production and to aid the provision of a safe working environment offshore.”

Dr Nabavian explained that there are currently more than 6,700 platforms in operation around the world and of that, an average of 30% have been in operation for more than 20 years. With many of these facilities operating beyond their original design life and more oil and gas discoveries being made, it’s become imperative for operators to extend the working life of their offshore assets.

The PSN Emirates’ paper addresses and discusses the challenges of managing asset integrity and focuses on strategies to extend asset life, while reducing operating costs, boosting production and ensuring profitability.
PSN Emirates is part of the PSN network of 8500 skilled personnel working across 28 countries. Taking a customer partnership approach to oil and gas service delivery, PSN Emirates is bringing global industry experience in the execution of integrated service contracts to the Middle East market.

“The operating model of PSN Emirates is still relatively new to Abu Dhabi but advanced technical experience, like that being outlined in our presentation at ADIPEC, can help improve our customer’s revenue and operational performance by increasing the reliability of their equipment, extending the life of their asset and optimising facility uptime,” explained David Clark, PSN Emirates CEO. “This integrated service capability enables us to better understand the challenges and opportunities that our clients face and deliver a service that will increase the short and long term value of our customer’s assets,”

“Our global experience working across five continents on a wide range of assets and in many challenging and harsh operating environments, underlines the value of technical expertise delivered through a long term relationship, where business goals are fully aligned and performance in transparent.”

PSN is a global provider of engineering, construction, operations, maintenance, project management and hook up and commissioning services, primarily to the oil and gas sector. These services optimise the operational performance and extend the field life of customers’ assets.

PSN Emirates is presenting the paper, ‘Extending Life of Fixed Offshore Installations through Integrity Management: A structural overview’, at ADIPEC 2010 on Wednesday, November 3. Session 21, Capital Suite 5, ADNEC.
