Gulf Drilling International (GDI) has ordered two new land rigs to work for Qatar Petroleum under newly awarded contracts. The orders from Superior Derrick Services (SDS) totaled about $53 million.
The 1500HP and 3000HP rigs will be called GDI-7 and GDI-8 respectively. GDI-7 will take 10 months to complete (Q3 of 2015) while GDI-8 will be finished in 12 months (Q4 of 2015).
The contract which was signed by Ibrahim J Al Othman, CEO of GDI and the managing partner of Superior Derrick Services, Rodney Verret will bring GDI’s land rig fleet to a total of eight including; five drilling rigs and three workover rigs.
GDI-8 will be the largest land rig in GDI’s fleet, capable of drilling extended reach wells and drill to greater depths. All eight rigs are under long term contracts with Qatar Petroleum for drilling operations onshore Dukhan field.
