Maersk Oil Qatar presses ahead with ‘Qatarisation’

The country's largest offshore oil producer said the programme titled 'Find Your Place' aims at attracting 'high-performing' Qataris

Maersk Oil Qatar (MOQ) has launched the latest phase of its recruitment campaign to showcase employment opportunities to Qataris, the official Qatar News Agency reports.

The country’s largest offshore oil producer said the programme titled ‘Find Your Place’ aims at attracting ‘high-performing’ Qataris.

Since the campaign’s launch in 2013, MOQ has increased the number of Qatari nationals in leadership and senior specialist positions at the company and received an energy industry award for ‘Best Support to Qatarisation’ in recognition of its progress.

“Qatarisation continues to be an important business priority for us, to ensure that we continue to hire and develop Qatari talent to support our highly-specialised work in developing Qatar’s Al Shaheen oilfield – a unique national asset – and one of the world’s most complex,” MOQ manging director Lewis Affleck, said.

“Driven by our goal to support Qatar in achieving its National Vision 2030, we continue to provide Qataris with unrivalled opportunities to fulfil their ambitions and in doing so, supporting the long-term growth and sustainability of Qatar’s energy industry,” MOQ managing director Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad Al-Thani, said.

“Our Qatarisation Strategy therefore focuses not only on increasing the number of Qatari employees, but specifically to quadruple the number of Qataris in leadership and senior specialist positions by 2017, and we continue to make ambitious steps to achieve this,” Al-Thani he said.

MOQ’s head of Qatarization Sheikh Jassim Al-Thani, before taking up his own international opportunity in Europe said, “As part of Maersk Group, with five business units already active in Qatar and operations in more than 130 countries worldwide, I believe there is no better international company for talented Qataris to join.”

“I am personally benefitting from Maersk’s global presence, by spending a year at Maersk’s global headquarters in Copenhagen (Denmark) and gaining new skills and expertise which I will share with my team on my return to Qatar,” he said.

‘Find Your Place’ features real employees giving insight into their personal experiences, career development opportunities and successful career progression at MOQ.

The latest phase features MOQ’s first Qatari female in an operational managerial role, Muneera Al-Mansoori, oil export operations manager, production manager Khalid Al-Jallabi and petroleum engineer Faisal Almuraikhi, all of whom ‘have benefitted from MOQ’s development programmes’, the company said.
