Iran to boost oil production capacity to four mbpd

Iran's oil minister sets new production capacity targets

Iran’s Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said Iran’s oil production capacity will reach four million barrels a day in the next Iranian year which starts on March 21.

“Our production capacity is around 3.7 mb/d now, but we are producing below this level,” Zanganeh said.

“Production capacity is very important for Iran because our production is not in normal conditions,” he said, adding that the present circumstances are temporary.

Zanganeh said Iraq has overtaken Iran in production from the oil fields the two countries share. The minister also expressed hope that production from South Pars gas field will add 100 mcm/d of gas to the country’s gas production. Zanganeh said Iran will have to import gasoline next calendar year.

The minister also expressed hope that Iran and Oman will reach a final agreement on gas exports. Zanganeh said he did not take seriously what Pakistani officials have said about the termination of their gas import contract with Iran. “We have a contract with them and we do not take seriously such allegations,” he said.
